The Color Purple

Looking for an old-fashioned book? Well, if that’s the case try The Color Purple by Alice Walker. Wonderfully written, I guarantee it will satisfy your craving.

Celie, a black girl is given away in marriage to a man she does not love. Her husband had loved Celie’s sister, Nettie. But when Nettie objects to Mr.____’s advances, he banishes her from their house, and never gives Celie the letters Nettie sends.

After their marriage Celie finds out about another woman, Shug Avery, who loves and is loved by Mr._______. Shug is a famous singer, but when she gets sick no one will take her in, except Mr.________.

Celie and Shug eventually become friends, and when Celie learns the truth about the sister she thought was long dead, and when Shug learns the truth about the man she had loved, the two up and move to Memphis, where Shug has a band.

Will the sisters ever reunite?

Will Shug ever get over her craze for men?
