Once upon a time there lived a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins, created by Mr. J.R.R. Tolkien. Bilbo is a quiet, homey rabbit. That is, untill Gandalf the wizard comes back! Gandalf spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E, at least for stay-at-home-in-my-nice-hobbit-hole-with-the-windows-on-all-the-nice-rooms-and-the-tons of-wardrobes-and- the-well-stocked-larder. Alas, poor Bilbo is rudely disturbed during his quiet tea by dwarves,Thorin Oakenshield,Fili and Kili, Oin and Gloin, Bofur,Bombur and Bifur, and others, who make up ‘Thorin and Company’, who are going on a quest for lost treasure! FLASHBACK.

Waaay before Bilbo is introduced, Thorin lived with his dad and grandad, in a big cave with lots of treasure. Unfortunately, sometimes too much gold isn’t a good thing. Example: A dragon named Smaug came out of the hills and killed all the dwarves in their treasure filled cave. Only Thorin, his brother Dori, and their dad and grandad survived. BACK TO THE PRESENT.

Gandalf has found a map that shows a secret entrance into the cave….. the dragon-inhabited cave!!I bet I know what you’re thinking. You know why? Because I’m thinking exact-uh-ly the same thing. ‘Gandalf, I know wizards are crazy, but seriously. YOU WANT TO JUST WALK INTO A DRAGON’S CAVE??!!! A WIZARD EATING DRAGON??!!’ But Gandalf, if he were here, would reply that, no he wasn’t going to the cave. He would say he has ‘pressing bussiness elsewhere’. And you know what? I’m not going to tell you what his ‘bussiness’ was….

Back to our homely hobbit! Poor Bilbo. He encounters trolls, elves, goblins, gollums,Wargs, and shape shifters…. sometimes all by himself! In all cases but one, the, shall I say, ‘interesting characters’ he meets want to eat/kill/force a confession out of him and/or steal a very nice ring…. or all of the afore mentioned ‘terrors’.* Now that I’ve scared you enough, I think I’ll leave you to wonder: What exactly does happen to Bilbo? What very nice ring? What is going to happen to that hobbit??!! Well, if you want to find out then click below! Mwahahaha!!

P.S. I wonder what hobbits taste like? Just kidding!

The Fellowship Of The Ring

And now, introducing Frodo, son of Drodo, nephew to the not-so-respectable Mr. Bilbo Bagginess!

Now, when we last met, I was terrorizing you about all the horrors that poor Bilbo had to face in the last book. This time, we have a new victim! Frodo inherits Bilbo’s magic ring, but exactly what kinds of ‘powers’ does it have?

Little Frodo is sent packing by mysterious ‘Black Riders’, and he finds himself pursued through Elf-land, the Shire, and alike. However, he is not alone. His trusty servant Sam Gamgee travels with him, along with the pudgy Merry. Frodo also finds a friend in Strider, a mysterious Ranger whom we know little about.

But now we must ask ourselves these sinister questions. Here, let me give you an example…

‘Who are these Black Riders, and why are they trying to sniff me?’ Need another example? ‘Exactly how desperate are the Black Riders, and what do they want from Frodo, and how do they mean to go about it’? Now that I have filled you with these cheery thoughts, I believe I will leave you to wonder what happens to Frodo. Click the link below when you wish to be put out of misery….. Till then, ta-ta!

Cross my heart and Hope To Spy

More spy books! Just finished Cross My Heart And Hope To Spy by Ally Carter. Let me tell you, her books just keep getting better and better. For those of you who have bothered to make the long trip to the bottom of the page, you probably saw my review on I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have To Kill You. Well, this is the second book in the series, and believe me they are good.

I kind of feel bad for Cammie, (the star of the story) because even though I would love to be able to track people, have a genius IQ, flip people (for extra credit) and go to school in an old mansion with dozens of secret passageways, Cammie has a minor wavy haired problem.. Now you’re probably thinking just why exactly do I feel bad for Cammie? I, being the generous, naturally kind person I am, will put you out of your misery.

I feel bad for Cammie because A) She got beat at her own game (she’s a pavement artist in training) by a boy from a mysterious school where (according to the picture of her dad and Mr. Solomon, their hot new teacher she found in her mom’s desk when she was snooping for clues as to what the curious term ‘black thorn’ meant) she and her roommates Liz (the all-new, modern Einstein), Bex ( the daughter of two M16 agents) and Macey, (the boy expert) suspect Mr. Solomon, who is teaching Covert Operations, was bred. Their suspicions are confirmed upon careful study of a copy of the picture Cammie found, where the word ‘Blackthorne Institute for Boys’ was located.

B) Cammie and her friends, being the spies they are, do a little, shall I say snooping. Imagine their surprise when they discover that boys are coming to an all girl’s school. Talk about a panic attack! Things only get worse when Cammie finds that her secretive tail is one of them- one of the Blackthorne Boys- who have come to stay at her school!

And C) she, well to put it nicely, doesn’t have much luck with boys in general. If she thought talking to a regular boy was hard, then she is in for a big surprise!

The Good Dog

Who’s up for a doggie book? Enter, McKinley! McKinley is the head dog of his town. However, when a wolf, Lupin, comes into his town, and asks the dogs to join her wolf pack, his simple life is turned upside down.

Pycraft has long abused his dog, Duchess. Every dog knew it. So none of them were surprised when Duchess ran away. What was surprising was that Pycraft wanted to find Duchess!

McKinley knows he can’t let that happen, and so he sets off to warn Duchess. To his dismay, he finds a wolf! Lupin had befriended Duchess, and so when Redburn, one of McKinley’s rivals, sets out to track her down, McKinley and his friend, Aspen, help Lupin back to her wilderness where Duchess eventually joins her.

Redburn challenges McKinley at a council of the dogs. He proclaims that since McKinley had submitted to the powerful she-wolf, he is no longer eligible to be head dog. He further argued that since humans fed them and gave them shelter, the dogs must give their owners complete, slave-like obedience, and do whatever they wish.

Challenged, betrayed, and in trouble with his human pup, what’s a dog to do?

The Magician

The immortal Nicholas Flamel, did you say? That’s a name I’ve not heard in years… hmmn, what was that? Oh, very well. If you insist.

Nicholas and Perry Flamel are ‘humani’ who have found a spell to make them immortal, but it needs to be renewed every month. The Codex, the book that contained the spell, and also many other dangerous items, was stolen by Machiavelli and his cronies. Machiavelli is a servant to the Elders, powerful immortals who want to rule the earth.

Now it is up to Sophie and Josh Newman, the twins in the prophecy written in the Codex. Sophie’s powers have been Awakened, but not Josh’s.

How desperate is Josh for his powers to be Awakened?
Desperate enough… to betray his sister?

Charlotte and Emily Bronte the Complete Novels

Hundreds of people were thrilled by Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre. Jane Eyre is a classic that can be read over and over.

I don’t know about you, but when I read Jane Eyre, I thought something was missing. It felt a little too short. A few years after that, my parents bought me Charlotte and Emily Bronte, the complete novels. I didn’t read them then, but a month ago I saw the book and I read it. Let me tell you the publishers cut out so much when they re-wrote it. The Jane Eyre I read was filled with description, and I wondered how any one could have got rid of so much of a good thing. In other words, I loved it.

What was more, Wuthering Heights and Shirley were also included.

Wuthering Heights was… incredible. I would constantly get mad at Heathcliff, or Linton. Any why were the women such scaredys? They had no backbone! But as many times as I promised myself I would never read it again, I always found myself standing in front of my book shelf, taking it out of lonely exile in the cupboard under my bookshelf.

And Shirley was so funny. Now these women were bold adventurers who didn’t get bossed around by their men folk! Caroline, an orphan raised by her uncle, is in love with her cousin Robert… but he doesn’t love her back.

Love sick, she falls ill, and it is almost certain she will die. Along comes Shirley, a perky little heiress with tons of money who befriends Caroline. With her comes Mrs. Pryor, who nurses Caroline and eventually tells her that she is her mother!

Upon hearing this, Caroline quickly gets better. After a good many chapters, she and Robert are friends once more. When Louis, Robert’s look-alike brother appears on scene, Shirley’s character is doubted. Can the heiress ever truly love anyone?

Find out, and read The Professor and The Villette too!

Writing Magic

Have you ever wished you could write well?

I’m talking like really good like National bestselling good.

Well, now you can!

In Writing Magic by Carson Gail, you can read in a funny way on how exactly you can become a fabulous writer!Practice writing little stories, write interesting beginnings, read helpful tips and get little hints. And whatever you do, always write junk!

I have always wanted to be a writer, and I would get good ideas for a story, but after a while I would find that I was forcing myself to write more, and because I was doing that, instead of simply having fun, I began to hate my work.

I would get lots of little ideas, but since I was working on something else, I wouldn’t let myself work on something else. And by the time I finished, or simply gave up, which was more often the case, I would have forgotten the idea I’d had, and then I would have to think hard and make my story be written, instead of the ideas coming to me, I had to make the ideas.

After reading Writing Magic, I am more confident in writing, and I know it’s OK to write quick little stories even if you’re working on something else. It worked wonders for me, and if you’re a wanna-be writer it will help you too!

Pride and Prejudice

Presenting Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Lydia and Kitty Bennet! These sisters are a recipe for laughter, disaster and confusion.

There couldn’t have been a better name: Pride and Prejudice. Perfectly describing the book!
Jane Austen’s famously intolerable Mr. Darcy has readers wondering about the cross, cranky old man.

He’s clearly one of the more eligible and handsome bachelors in the region, but far to cranky to fall in love. Or is he?

The two younger sisters, Lydia and Kitty, are infatuated with the militia that recently come to town. When the army moves on, Lydia accepts an invitation to accompany them, but exactly how desperate is she for a scarlet backed husband?

Poor Jane, too is thwarted in love. Her mother, the worthy Mrs. Bennet is expecting an marriage proposal from the rich Mr. Bingley every day. He however never comes. Why is he staying away? And could Mr. Darcy have had anything to do with it?

Math Doesn't Suck

Who says math has to be boring and dry?

Now, thanks to Danica Mckellar, math can be fun and exiting! Take me, living proof: I hate math. More correctly, I hate some areas in math. Not all parts of math.
After reading Danica’s fabulous book, I am actually starting to ‘get’ math.

Before: When the dreadful 'm' word came up, I would run and hide, or make some excuse so I wouldn’t have to do it. “I feel sick”. “I’m doing something”. “I will.” And then promptly forgot about it.

Present: I delight in geometry, love circumference, and often write down an a problem in the margins of my papers.

Behold, a miracle has occurred!

When I would make a mistake, I would be mad, because it meant I had to redo the problem. Now I am disappointed purely because I didn’t get it right!

A miracle has come out of the sky in the form of Danica Mckellar’s National bestseller book, Math Doesn’t Suck! Read and rejoice!

Buttercup, is captured by the notorious Sicilian Crowd, Vinzini the Sicilian , Inigo, the Spaniard (and a fencing master who is intent on finding and killing the six fingered man who unjustly slaughtered his father), and Fezzik, the giant. They are headed for the Guilder frontier when a masked man in black appears. The kidnappers believe him to be the Dread Pirate Roberts, but he is known only as the man in black!

The man in black duels Inigo, and comes out the victor, but leaves him alive. He then grapples with Fezzik the Giant, and comes out on top once more. The man in black must then outwit the mastermind, Vinzini when any mistake means a knife in the throat for Buttercup.

Why is the man in black chasing after Buttercup and will he be able to win the battle of wits with Vinzini, the Sicilian mastermind?

Will Prince Humperdinck’s plan to kill the Princess and start a war with Guilder succeed? Read the book to find out and be sure and tell me what you think. Post your opinions on my blog!
